Map personal rooms and shared items
Start with a bedroom map and a separate common area inventory. Shared tables, kitchen equipment, and cleaning supplies can have different owners even when everyone used them. Record who is authorized to decide about each item and leave unresolved belongings out of the approved removal list.
Use plain labels that remain understandable after residents have left: room number, item description, and remove or retain. A colored sticker alone can be ambiguous if different residents use different systems. Photograph the final labeled arrangement, especially when some bedrooms will remain occupied during the cleanout.
Handle the concentrated move schedule
Ask the building contact about loading spaces, elevator reservations, and periods when several residents are moving. Share the actual pickup location rather than only the street address. A full curb, a locked service entrance, or an unavailable elevator can change access and the labor needed for the work.
Choose one coordinator who can answer scope questions during the appointment. A group chat may help residents organize, but it is a poor substitute for a clear approval contact. Keep the coordinator’s instructions in one written list so conflicting messages do not produce accidental changes after the crew arrives.
Separate reusable items from leftovers
If residents have arranged a donation or buyer collection, give those items their own location and deadline agreed by the household. Do not promise a recipient that an item will be accepted or stored by the hauling crew. Keep any independent collection arrangements outside the removal list until they are resolved.
Planning example: four roommates approve a damaged couch for removal, but the dining chairs belong to a returning resident. Label the couch by name, move the chairs to the retained bedroom, and exclude a box of kitchenware pending a decision. Send photos that show both the items and the exit route.
Close the turnover with a usable record
The coordinator should compare completed removal with the approved room list and note anything that remains. Keep the record focused on furniture and contents rather than private student records. Dispose of sensitive paperwork through arrangements appropriate to its owner instead of mixing it into photos sent for a hauling estimate.
PNWJunkRemoval is operated by Solely Junk LLC and currently serves reviewed Portland–Vancouver requests through JunkPDX. Seattle and Boise are not open. Price depends on scope, volume, weight, access, and labor, with onsite approval before loading. Ordinary nonhazardous hauling does not establish ownership or settle resident disputes.
KEEP THIS WITH YOUR PROJECT NOTES
Before you take the next step
- Create separate bedroom and shared-area lists.
- Resolve ownership of communal furniture.
- Name one authorized appointment coordinator.
- Check elevator and loading conflicts with management.
- Keep retained items behind clearly labeled doors.
Save a text checklist with space for the address, timing and approval contact. Downloading does not submit or book a pickup.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Details worth settling early
Can each roommate add items separately?
They can prepare their own inventory, but the coordinator should combine approved items into one current scope before the appointment. Additional items may change the price.
Can remaining furniture be treated as abandoned?
Do not use the hauling appointment to decide that question. The authorized owner or housing representative must establish which belongings may be removed before work begins.
What if a donation pickup falls through?
Update the hauling request with photos and the additional items. Availability and price need review; a backup pickup should not be assumed already included.
