Define the categories in ordinary language
Keep means the owner has chosen to retain the item, even if it will move elsewhere. Donate means the owner is seeking an independent recipient and must confirm acceptance. Remove means authorized ordinary hauling is requested. Pending means the decision is unfinished and the item should remain outside the loading scope.
Use written labels rather than relying entirely on colors or room positions. Explain the categories to everyone helping, especially if several people are sorting at different times. An item placed near the door may be awaiting a family collection rather than removal, so location should never substitute for a clear instruction.
Give each decision an owner
Ask who owns the belongings and who is authorized to direct disposal. Shared household or estate items may need a coordinator to reconcile input before the final list is issued. This plan does not decide legal rights; it makes the authorized instructions visible to the people handling the practical work.
Set aside personal records, sentimental items, and potentially valuable objects before creating removal piles. Arrange appraisal or specialist advice independently when needed. Do not ask a hauling crew to determine whether an item is worth keeping or to choose which family member should receive it during the appointment.
Make donation plans specific and conditional
Contact the intended organization or recipient directly about item acceptance, condition, access, and collection arrangements. Do not assume an item will be accepted because it seems usable. Keep donation items separate until their handoff is complete, and make a new authorized decision if the proposed recipient declines.
Planning example: a household offers a working desk to a local recipient but approves a broken chair for hauling. Keep the desk in the donation area with its pickup arrangement, label the chair for removal, and leave an undecided bookcase pending. If the desk is not collected, update the scope only after the owner chooses the next step.
Turn the sorted groups into a pickup request
Photograph the approved removal group and the route to the loading area. PNWJunkRemoval is operated by Solely Junk LLC, with current Portland–Vancouver requests reviewed for JunkPDX service. ZIP, address, and scope need confirmation. Pricing reflects volume, weight, access, and labor, with approval of the onsite price before loading.
Keep retained, donated, and pending groups visibly outside the work boundary throughout the appointment. Ordinary nonhazardous hauling does not promise donation acceptance, a particular reuse destination, appraisal, or hazardous material disposal. Record any excluded items and make separate arrangements rather than moving them into the removal category to finish faster.
KEEP THIS WITH YOUR PROJECT NOTES

- Confirm who may decide each item’s outcome.
- Give every category a separate physical location.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Details worth settling early
Can the crew decide which items to donate?
Do not rely on hauling staff to make ownership or recipient decisions. Choose the items yourself or through an authorized coordinator and arrange acceptance with the intended recipient.
What if a donation appointment is canceled?
The owner should make a new decision. If hauling is requested, disclose the added items and obtain review of the changed scope and onsite price before loading.
Is it okay to keep a pending pile?
Yes. A pending category protects unfinished decisions from being treated as disposal instructions. Keep it clearly labeled and outside the approved loading area.
