Plan Removal After an Estate Sale

An estate sale cleanout begins after the authorized representative and sale organizer identify what may be removed. Separate sold items awaiting collection from unsold items, retained belongings, and anything still under discussion. Photograph the final leftovers after the sale closes, then request a scope review using the actual remaining contents and access conditions.

Close the sale inventory first

Ask the sale organizer for a current list of sold items that remain onsite and any areas they still control. An item without a price tag is not automatically a leftover. Reconcile holds, buyer pickups, and family retention decisions before turning the building over for hauling.

Have the authorized estate representative confirm the removal list. The organizer’s operational handoff and the representative’s authority may be separate matters, so identify the person whose instructions govern disposal. Keep any disputed or unconfirmed belongings in a clearly marked retained zone while questions are resolved outside the hauling appointment.

Survey the leftovers after collection

Take new room photographs once scheduled collections have occurred. A presale inventory can significantly misrepresent the final scope: large furniture might sell while many boxes remain, or the opposite may happen. Include closets, display areas, garage corners, and any place the organizer staged overflow during the sale.

Describe boxed contents as accurately as practical. Books, tools, and household textiles occupy space differently and can have very different weight. Tell the reviewer about mixed boxes without guessing their contents; inaccessible or unopened areas should remain provisional until they can be inspected and added to the approved scope.

Coordinate the handoff between teams

Agree on when sale staff will remove tables, signs, checkout materials, and their own equipment. Separate these items from estate contents so the hauling scope does not accidentally include borrowed supplies. Arrange entry and loading access after the sale traffic has cleared and any building restrictions have been confirmed.

Planning example: two purchased dressers await collection while unsold upholstered furniture is ready to go. Put a written sold hold on the dressers, retain their pickup details with the organizer, and list only the upholstery for removal. If a buyer later cancels, obtain a fresh authorized decision and scope review.

Approve the real remaining load

PNWJunkRemoval is operated by Solely Junk LLC, with current reviewed service through JunkPDX in Portland–Vancouver. Seattle and Boise are not open. Share the address and final photos for scope review; volume, weight, access, and labor inform pricing, and the onsite price is approved before loading.

At completion, document sold holds, retained rooms, and any excluded materials that remain. A leftover cleanout covers approved ordinary nonhazardous hauling, not valuation, sale settlement, document review, or specialist remediation. Use the completion record to plan the property’s next step without implying those other responsibilities have been fulfilled.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Details worth settling early

Can a pickup be estimated before the sale?

Early photos can support planning, but the final leftover inventory needs review. The actual remaining items, access, and onsite approval determine the accepted hauling scope and price.

What if a buyer misses their pickup?

Keep the item excluded until the responsible organizer and authorized representative resolve its status. A missed collection does not automatically authorize removal by the hauling crew.

Does the crew assess unsold antiques?

No appraisal should be assumed. Arrange independent valuation or review before approving an item for ordinary hauling if its significance or value is uncertain.
