Coordinate removal from a storage facility

Storage-unit removal requires more than a unit number and a gate code. Identify who can authorize disposal, confirm facility access rules, and describe the contents and loading route. Keep any unresolved ownership or account issue with the responsible parties before requesting hauling; a removal crew should receive an already approved scope.

Resolve authority before sharing access

Identify the customer who controls the contents and can approve the removal scope. A facility’s access to a unit does not by itself answer ownership or disposal questions. If a unit is connected to an auction, dispute, delinquency, or another unresolved process, the responsible parties should settle the authority question before a provider is asked to remove anything.

Record which unit or units are included, who will open them, and whether the customer will attend. Do not send another tenant’s information or a broad facility access credential when a narrower arrangement will work. If identity or authority is unclear at arrival, pause that portion of the request and contact the named responsible person.

Describe the contents honestly

Photos taken from the doorway may conceal the quantity and type of material at the back. Explain whether the unit is accessible for inspection and whether boxes contain unknown items. Describe large furniture, dense loose contents, appliances, or unusually heavy pieces. A provider needs enough detail to decide what additional review is necessary before accepting a scope.

Ask the customer to remove keeps, personal records, valuables, and anything outside ordinary nonhazardous hauling. Do not assume unknown containers, chemical products, or items left by a previous occupant can be loaded. If a concern becomes visible while work proceeds, set the affected material aside safely within the agreed site process and seek specific direction.

Plan the full route through the facility

Document gate hours, office check-in, elevator dimensions, loading restrictions, and the distance from the unit to the vehicle. Some units open directly to a driveway while others require several turns and a shared lift. These differences affect the work, so the handoff should describe the route rather than only the size of the rented unit.

Ask the facility whether carts, loading bays, or elevator reservations are available and who controls them. Confirm that the proposed vehicle can access the route without blocking emergency access or other tenants. Do not promise a precise completion time based only on unit size; actual contents, customer sorting, and facility congestion can change the plan.

Agree what completion means

Define whether the requested outcome is removal of specified items, all approved contents, or a cleared unit subject to stated exclusions. Facility cleaning standards, repairs, lock handling, and account closure should be addressed separately with the customer and facility. A hauling completion note does not automatically close a rental agreement or certify the condition of the space.

PNWJunkRemoval, operated by Solely Junk LLC, has active Portland–Vancouver service through JunkPDX. Seattle is recruiting and Boise is developing, without confirmed network jobs there. Confirm market availability and the facility handoff process before referring a tenant. Any ongoing facility relationship requires agreed contact, authorization, and access procedures before use.

KEEP THIS WITH YOUR PROJECT NOTES

Before you take the next step

  1. Confirm who owns or controls the contents and approves disposal.
  2. Record the exact unit numbers and the person providing access.
  3. Photograph visible contents and explain inaccessible or unknown areas.
  4. Check gate hours, elevator access, loading position, and vehicle limits.
  5. Separate hauling completion from cleaning, repairs, and rental closure.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Details worth settling early

Can facility staff authorize a tenant’s cleanout?

The appropriate authority depends on the actual situation and should be resolved by the responsible parties before hauling is requested. Do not ask a provider to determine ownership or treat a gate code as permission to dispose of contents.

Is an empty-unit photo enough to end the rental?

No. The customer should follow the facility’s separate move-out and account process. A completion photo can document the hauling outcome, but it does not establish acceptance by the facility or resolve outstanding account matters.

Can a provider quote from the unit size alone?

Unit size is useful context, but it does not describe density, item types, stairs, loading distance, or sorting needs. Supply a contents description and access information, then follow the provider’s actual scope and price review process.
