Office Chair Removal: Count, Sort, and Confirm the Pickup

Office chair removal is easiest to review when the count, chair types, condition, and access route are clear. Separate chairs approved for hauling from those kept for staff, repair, transfer, or confirmed reuse. Provide representative photos and describe where the chairs are located, then approve the final onsite scope and price before loading begins.

Count chairs by type and release status

Group comparable chairs together, such as rolling task chairs, conference seating, guest chairs, and larger lounge chairs. Record the quantity in each group and flag unusually heavy, oversized, or damaged pieces. Do not use desk count as a substitute: meeting rooms, storage areas, and spare seating often make the actual total different.

For a planning example, an office replacing twenty task chairs may retain four as spares and transfer two to another location. The hauling count would reflect only the chairs still approved for removal. Label the retained and transfer groups directly so a hallway full of similar seating does not create an ownership mistake.

Decide reuse and repair before staging

If chairs may be repaired, returned under an agreement, transferred, or accepted by another organization, assign someone to resolve that decision before pickup. Confirm recipient acceptance and collection responsibility instead of assuming usable furniture has a donation destination. Remove confirmed transfers from the removal inventory and keep undecided pieces in a separate area.

Inspect pockets, attached organizers, under-seat storage, and nearby accessories for employee property or documents. Note special features such as powered components or unusual mechanisms. Do not dismantle pressurized components or improvise repairs to make a chair smaller; explain its current condition and let the actual handling needs be reviewed.

Describe condition and the carrying route

Provide photos showing representative models, damage, and the full group. Mention broken bases, protruding parts, missing wheels, or any condition that affects movement. Potential contamination requires separate review and should not be mixed with otherwise ordinary furniture. A rolling chair is not necessarily easy to move when its base or mechanism is damaged.

Explain whether chairs are spread across occupied rooms or consolidated in a permitted staging area. Describe stairs, elevator requirements, narrow doors, and the distance to vehicle access. Keep required exits and employee circulation clear; do not stack chairs in a way that risks collapse or assume every model is designed to be stacked.

Approve the actual count and check completion

Pricing depends on volume, weight, labor, and access rather than a universal per-chair amount. Supply an accurate inventory for the initial discussion and approve the final onsite price before loading. If employees add extra chairs during the visit, route the change through the authorized contact before expanding the scope.

PNWJunkRemoval, operated by Solely Junk LLC, currently reviews Portland–Vancouver requests through JunkPDX, with each address and scope checked. Seattle and Boise are not open. Compare removed quantities with the approved groups at completion and record retained or excluded chairs without promising donation, recycling, repair, or another downstream outcome that has not been confirmed.

KEEP THIS WITH YOUR PROJECT NOTES

Before you take the next step

  1. Count task, conference, guest, and lounge seating as separate groups.
  2. Label chairs retained for spares, repair, return, or confirmed transfer.
  3. Photograph damaged bases, unusual mechanisms, and oversized or heavy models.
  4. Keep the staging area stable, permitted, and clear of required exits.
  5. Name one person to approve the final count and onsite price.

Save a text checklist with space for the address, timing and approval contact. Downloading does not submit or book a pickup.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Details worth settling early

Is there one set price for each office chair?

Do not assume a universal unit price. Chair size, quantity, weight, location, access, and handling affect the scope; request review and confirm the final onsite amount before loading.

Can chairs with broken wheels be included?

Describe and photograph the damage for review. Missing or broken parts can change handling, and sharp, unstable, or otherwise problematic pieces need specific assessment before acceptance.

Will usable chairs be donated?

No donation outcome is guaranteed. If donation is essential, obtain direct acceptance and a clear collection arrangement from an appropriate recipient before removing those chairs from your internal inventory.
