Mattress & Bed Frame Removal: What to Prepare

A mattress pickup may also involve a box spring, slats, headboard and a heavy adjustable base. Listing the full bed prevents a small-sounding request from leaving out most of the job. Decide what stays, share the location of every piece and review the removal scope before anything is carried out.

Count the complete bed setup

Record the mattress size and list every separate part leaving the home. Two twin foundations beneath a king mattress count as two pieces. An adjustable base is a different handling task from a lightweight frame, so identify motors and controls in the photos.

State whether bedding, pillows or other loose household items are part of the request. Keep belongings you want to retain away from the removal area. Check drawers in a storage bed and the space beneath it before the appointment so possessions are not overlooked.

Decide who handles disassembly

Photograph the frame assembled and describe whether it must come apart to leave the room. Tell the crew about built-in shelving, wall attachments or parts you want saved. Ask whether the necessary disassembly can be included in the reviewed work before you start removing hardware.

If you have already dismantled the frame, group the approved pieces together and keep retained hardware separate. Do not leave exposed screws or sharp parts in a walkway. An assembled bed may be easier to assess than an unidentified pile of rails and panels.

Explain condition and building access

Describe stains, damage, dampness or any known pest concern honestly when requesting service. Conditions can affect whether the pickup can proceed and what arrangements are needed. Do not conceal affected materials inside a larger load or assume normal hauling includes treatment.

For apartments, confirm the route through the hall and whether the building requires elevator or loading reservations. Ask about preparation or containment before purchasing wrapping materials. Leave the mattress where it can be assessed rather than dragging it through a shared corridor ahead of time.

Compare a complete pickup scope

If a retailer offers haul-away with a replacement mattress, check exactly which pieces it includes and what preparation it requires. A mattress-only arrangement may leave the old frame and base behind. Make the comparison using the whole list you want removed.

For JunkPDX, check local ZIP coverage and describe the bed setup when arranging the estimate. Truck space, lifting, disassembly and access can affect price. The final price is approved onsite before loading; adding a dresser or another bed requires a revised agreed scope.

KEEP THIS WITH YOUR PROJECT NOTES

Before you take the next step

  1. List mattress size and every bed component.
  2. Empty bed drawers and retrieve personal belongings.
  3. Identify adjustable bases or wall attachments.
  4. Disclose condition and access constraints.
  5. Approve disassembly and removal together.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Details worth settling early

Does mattress pickup include the frame?

Only when the frame is included in the agreed item list and estimate. List the mattress, foundation, frame and headboard separately when describing the job.

Can you guarantee mattress recycling?

No destination should be assumed. Ask about handling for your specific materials; condition and available acceptance options can affect what is possible.

Should I put it outside before pickup?

You do not need to assume curbside staging is required. Discuss the collection location first and keep the item from becoming wet or obstructing shared access.
