Approve the Removal Scope Before Loading Begins

Before loading begins, review the actual items, collection areas, access conditions, and final price with the crew. Identify what stays and resolve any difference from the initial request. One authorized person should approve the complete accepted scope, including any changes, so the visit proceeds from a shared understanding of what work is included.

Walk the full project before approving it

Visit every collection area included in the request, even if the crew has seen photographs. Point out the approved items and identify belongings that stay. A room-level instruction such as “clear the garage” can be ambiguous when tools, shelving, or seasonal belongings are meant to remain.

Use your current inventory to catch differences from earlier messages. Donation pickups, household sorting, and added items can all change the work. The goal is to establish the project as it exists now, not to force the day’s inventory to fit an outdated description.

Clarify the work behind the price

Confirm how the accepted scope accounts for the material, carrying route, and loading access. Volume, weight, labor, and access can affect the assessment. Ask about unresolved conditions and excluded tasks before approving the final amount, particularly when appliances, heavy objects, or multiple floors are involved.

Ordinary nonhazardous hauling does not automatically include utility disconnection, demolition, regulated-material handling, or a separate cleaning service. If you need another task, describe it independently and seek an explicit review. Silence about an extra task should not be interpreted as inclusion.

Make authority and limits clear

Identify the person who can approve the removal scope and final amount. If someone is meeting the crew on your behalf, give them the latest inventory and clear instructions about pending items or spending limits. Do not rely on a contact who can only open the property but cannot make decisions.

For illustration, an owner might approve removal of the garage inventory while keeping a stored cabinet pending. The onsite contact needs to know that distinction. A broad statement that “everything is fine” should not replace clear approval of the specific belongings and amount under discussion.

Use a new discussion for changes

Once the scope is approved, identify additions before they are loaded. The crew should review the extra work and the authorized person should approve any revised scope and price. This is especially useful when another resident arrives with more material or an overlooked room is discovered during the visit.

PNW coordinates current Portland–Vancouver requests through JunkPDX after ZIP, address, and scope review. An initial photo discussion prepares the appointment but does not replace final onsite approval. Keep the agreed inventory available for the final walkthrough so completion can be checked against what you actually approved.

KEEP THIS WITH YOUR PROJECT NOTES

Before you take the next step

  1. Walk every included collection area.
  2. Identify all belongings that must remain.
  3. Confirm included work and unresolved exclusions.
  4. Approve the final amount before loading.
  5. Review additions separately before they enter the load.

Save a text checklist with space for the address, timing and approval contact. Downloading does not submit or book a pickup.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Details worth settling early

Is approving a photo estimate enough?

A photo discussion helps prepare the request. The actual scope and final price still need approval onsite before loading, including any differences in items or access.

Can a family member approve for me?

Name the authorized contact and give that person the inventory and your decision limits. They need to understand what can be removed and what remains unresolved.

What if I disagree with the onsite scope?

Resolve the disagreement before loading begins. Ask for clarification or a revised accepted scope rather than allowing work to start while the items, exclusions, or amount remain unclear.
